coalition cautions FG "Don’t negotiate with Boko Haram" - Adesewa - 09-02-2016 As pressure continued to mount on the Federal Government to engage Boko Haram insurgents in negotiation to secure the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, the Coalition Against Terrorism and Extremism (CATE), has cautioned the Federal Government against such negotiation with the terrorist group. It warned that such negotiation would taint whatever success the government might have recorded in its war against terrorism, as it would also serve as an open invitation to other groups with similar a mindset to hold the nation to ransom. CATE during a protest march to the Ministry of Defence in Abuja, the Nigerian Army Headquarters and the Federal Ministry of Information yesterday, advised the Federal Government not to allow any group or sect hold the nation to ransom through unreasonable demands. During the march, which was led by its Secretary General, Daniel Obaje, the coalition also commended the military for decimating the Boko Haram sect in the North- East. “We all are not unaware of recent trends in the very successful fight against terrorism as instituted by the dedicated government of President Muhammadu Buhari. His administration has achieved high percentage achievements in this area of ensuring national stability and peace. “However, certain elements in the nation, who have over time benefited from the spoils of violence and its antecedent followings, have risen to distract the vision and drive of this administration to put a final nail to the coffin of these saboteurs,” it said. |
