No fewer than 19 people reportedly killed by insurgents in Borno village - Survivor - Mhiz Rebecca - 08-20-2018 No fewer than 19 people were said to have been killed in an insurgency attack on a village in Borno state in the early hours of Sunday, August 19. Reuters reports that a survivor of the attack made this disclosure. The survivor said the insurgents attacked the village of Mailari in the Guzamala region of Borno state around 2am. NAIJ.com gathers that the survivor identified as Abatcha Umar said he had not been able to tell whether they belonged to Boko Haram or to Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA). The death toll was put at 63 by an aid worker at a camp that received the survivor. The aid worker, who declined to be identified, said hundreds of people from villages in the area had fled to the camp for displaced people where he worked, in Monguno. According to Umar, the militants had been spotted around the village three days before their attack. He said locals had warned Nigerian troops stationed in the nearby town of Gudumbali, but no action was taken. |
