Bowen University: 71 Students Bag First Class - Adesewa - 11-09-2018

Bowen University , Iwo, Osun State has disclosed plans to rebrand and reposition the institution for local and global competition . Vice Chancellor of the university , Prof . Joshua Ogunwole , dropped the hint while unveiling the activities for institution ’s 13 th convocation .He disclosed that 71 students made first class degrees , 329 had second - class upper division , another 329 -recorded second - class lower , while 88 attained third class degrees .
42 students passed out from Medicine and Surgery , six had postgraduate diploma, 16 Masters degrees , while seven others bagged Doctor of Philosophy (PhD ) degrees . As part of the activities , a convocation lecture entitled : “ Tilted Tower : A Paradox of Nigeria ’s Tertiary Institutions ” would be delivered today by a renowned Professor of Chemistry and former Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Timothy Olagbemiro .
The VC added that two prominent Baptists , the former General Secretary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and pioneer visitor to the university , Dr . Ademola Ishola , and the former Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the university Governing Council , Prof . Bisi Adebowale, would be honoured at the event . Ogunwole said the future of university in Nigeria rests in private hands , adding that Bowen University was committed to changing the failing model of public varsities .
He said : “ Our academic staff have been engaging and advancing the frontiers of research to meet world - class research benchmarks , especially in globally relevant niche areas of renewable energy , food security, medicine , peace and conflict studies .“ The university has equally made progress in the area of establishment of positive academic linkages, and the promotion of viable outreach programmes , both locally and overseas .
