Eagles will be ready for Cameroon clash - Rohr
Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has allayed fears
that the team will be match rusty before the next 2018 World
Cup qualifying match against Cameroon in August 2017
Rohr who gave an insight on how he plans to prepare his team
before Nigeria’s back to back World Cup 2018 qualifiers against
Cameroon next year insisted that the players will have enough
time to prepare, adding that he will also use the opportunity of
the 2019 AFCON qualifying matches which will also commence
in March 2017 to prepare the players.
Nigeria currently lead group B of the CAF World Cup 2018
qualifying series, but failure to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup
of Nations made fans to raise concerns over the fitness of the
players ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in August 2017.
However, Rohr has played down such notion, saying the AFCON
2019 qualifiers which will take place in March next year will be
a veritable test ground to help his team gel before the World
Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
He also noted that the friendly game against Egypt on January
9, 2017 in Dubai, will play a big part in the players that would
be selected for the competitive games next year.
“We have a match with Egypt in Dubai for them to prepare for
the AFCON,” he said,
