Car bomb in Istanbul, nearly 20 police wounded
A car bomb exploded in the heart of Istanbul Saturday,
wounding around 20 police officers, the interior minister said,
quoted by the official Anadolu news agency.
The bomb, apparently targeting a bus carrying police officers,
exploded outside the stadium of Istanbul football club Besiktas
following its match against Bursaspor, Interior Minister
Suleyman Soylu said.
“A car packed with explosives is believed to have exploded
where our riot squad was deployed shortly after the football
fans dispersed following the match,” he said.
“The attack targeted the riot police’s bus,” the minister said,
adding that nearly 20 officers had been wounded.
