PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari may have aborted his planned
trip to Bauchi State on Tuesday to attend to the festering political
crisis in The Gambia.
He was due to depart for the state to commission a hospital built
by the Nigerian Air Force.
The Bauchi State government has already declared Tuesday a
public holiday to enable civil servants in the state to come out in
large numbers to welcome him.
But it was learnt that he may now be headed for The Gambia on
Tuesday to join fellow West African leaders who will attempt to
convince President Yahya Jammeh to accept the outcome of the
presidential election recently conducted in the country.
Jammeh lost to the opposition candidate and former estate agent,
Adama Barrow, and had indeed conceded defeat before making a
detour.
His decision to annul the election has raised fears of a serious
political crisis, which may have grave implications for the sub
region.
Jammeh is yet to heed the call by the United Nations (UN), United
States and other concerned governments around the world to
respect the outcome of the election.
The Presidency was yet to react to the story at the time of filing
this report.
