Thunder strikes undergraduate student to death, another commit suicide
An undergraduate student of Anambra State University , Igbariam was yesterday struck to death by a thunder lightening following a heavy downpour in the area .The deceased, Vincent Uche Mbanefo, a 100 -level student of Agric Extension, was said to be alone in his Achalla Logde at about 5 : 00 p . m . when the incident happened .
A student of the institution , who broke the news to newsmen said the deceased, who lived alone in the room , was found lying lifeless with the colour of his skin turned to black . “ It came to us as a shock because the rain was not too heavy to have caused such calamity ,” he lamented .
The state Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) , Mohammed Haruna , who confirmed the incident, said the deceased was immediately rushed to the hospital by detectives attached to Achalla division where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor .He said parents of the deceased were immediately contacted , who had since conveyed the body to their village in Aguleri for burial .
In another development, a 40 -year - old man reportedly committed suicide in Obosi , Idemili North local government area of the state . The deceased, Nnamdi Omezi , hung himself at about 4 : 00 p .m . with a rope suspended to the ceiling fan in his apartment located at No . 7 Fred Ezika Street , Odume layout .
It was gathered that the body of the deceased was still dangling from where it was suspended when the police , led by the DPO Isiowulu division arrived the scene .The police spokesperson , Haruna Mohammed , said the detectives attached to Isiowulu Division visited the scene of the incident with a medical doctor , who certified the victim dead .He , however , said efforts to recover the body for autopsy proved abortive , as the community insisted that ritual rites must be conducted as a traditional requirement before moving the body .
