37-yr-old Akwa Ibom woman sells granddaughter for N200,000
The Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 37-year-
old grandmother, Ekaette Obot, for stealing and selling
her granddaughter for N200,000. The police say Obot
claimed to have sold the child to free her 18-year-old
daughter, Blessing Okon, from the burden of
motherhood.
Parading her before newsmen at the command's
headquarters yesterday July 31sth, the state
Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, said
Obot, who is also pregnant, told the Police that as
soon as she put to bed, she will sell the baby.
“This is the mother to this lady. As soon as her
daughter gave birth she sold the child for N200,
000. She is pregnant and she is saying that as
soon as she puts to bed, she is going to sell
her own baby also.” the commissioner of police
said
Obot told the police that with her job as a cleaner, she
can not feed herself, her daughter, granddaughter and
her own unborn child.
