Governor Ayodele Fayose
The family of the slain former World Bank Consultant, Dr Ayodeji Daramola, yesterday, petitioned the presiding
judge handling the murder case, Justice Adewale Fowe, asking him to recuse on account of likelihood of bias and perversion of justice.
The family , in a letter dated July 28, 2017, signed by one of the deceased’s sibling, Mr Dare Daramola and addressed to Justice Fowe raised strong doubts about the possibility of the Judge handling the matter with fairness on the strength of his alleged conviviality with Governor Fayose.
Daramola, who was eyeing the governorship seat before being murdered, was assassinated by gunmen on August 14, 2006 at his Ijan Ekiti countryhome during Governor Ayodele Fayose’s first term, which fuelled the suspicion that then state government allegedly had hands in the incident.
The family raised doubt about the impartiality of the ailing Justice Fowe in the matter, when the governor allegedly sponsored him to South Africa to look after the Judge’s degenerating health.
Also copied the petition were the Chairman, National Judicial Council, NJC and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen and the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola.
They called the attention of the Judge to the fact that Fayose and some of his aides during the first term in office were suspects in the matter as contained in the charge number HAD/2c/2007 and that he is now the governor under whom the case was being prosecuted.
