released by the Independent National Electoral Commission on October 5, 2017. The incumbent governor and the only one from the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has been highly vocal and critical of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration of the All Progressives Congress. In fact, Fayose could perhaps be described as the President’s number one critic. According to pundits, Fayose has established himself as a major force to reckon with in the Ekiti political terrain, especially after his second return to the governorship seat on October 16, 2014. His first stint in government started on May 29, 2003, after defeating the then-incumbent governor, Niyi Adebayo, in the governorship election. He could not, however, complete his first tenure as a result of an impeachment filed against him on October 16, 2006.
