The Nigerian Army in Akure said on Saturday that it discovered the decomposing body of a suspected kidnap victim at a thick forest in Arifa community, Efon Alaaye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The brigade’s spokesman, Ojo Adenegan, a major, in a statement said the phone of the decomposing body was ringing repeatedly when it was found.
Mr Adenegan said troops led by the brigade commander, James Ataguba, were involved in a clearance operation within the general area of Efon Alaaye Local Government Area of Ekiti State following incessant robbery and kidnapping incidents in the state.
“The clearance operation commenced in early hours Friday (yesterday) where thick forested areas of Arifa community along Iwaraja road was combed,” the statement read.
“While combing the thick forest, a decomposed body of a man suspected to be a victim of kidnapping incident was found with his GSM phone ringing repeatedly.
“The Nigerian police and the state government have been informed for the evacuation of the decomposed body.
“Consequently, we are using this medium to inform the general public within the area not to panic in sighting movement of troops as the operation continue, in order to make those black spots crime free.”
The statement also urged the public to cooperate with the army to achieve more successes in the cause of the clearance operation by sharing information on the activities of the criminals through the brigade’s call centre hotlines, 09030002151 and 09030002161.
