Failure to fund education will lead Nigeria to catastrophe —EKSU pro-chancellor
PRO-CHANCELLOR and chairman of the governing council, Ekiti State University, Mr Dele Adesina, SAN, has called on stakeholders and government at all levels to fund education adequately in order to avert a looming catastrophe in the nation.
He gave the warning during his speech at EKSU’s 23rd convocation ceremonies, where the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Public Administration.
Adesina noted that quality education is the greatest legacy one could give a child.
While acknowledging the modest funding of university education by government, the governing council chairman commended the substantial funding by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and NEEDS Assessment; saying that both had saved the university system from total collapse.
Adesina expressed joy that the Ekiti State University has attained a frontline position among Nigerian universities with the recent successful accreditation of its academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which gave 100 per cent accreditation to 38 programmes presented across all faculties.
