The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State , Chief Gboyega Oguntuase , has said his party ’ s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar , is popular in the country because of his past achievements .
Oguntuase said the growing poverty in the country following the All Progressives Congress ’ alleged poor performance had boosted Atiku’ s acceptability profile.
He said in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday , “The reality on the ground in all parts of the country , including the North-West , where there is the belief that President Buhari will have an edge, is that there is evidence of poverty and non-performance and the people know this .
“In the South -West , the North-Central and in the South -East , Atiku is acceptable because the APC has disappointed all of them . In the North-East , there is no way Atiku would not make a headway . ”
Oguntuase added, “When you look at the Yar ’Adua political dynasty, you ’ ll realise that Atiku played a major role there . That ’ s the old SDP. When you look at the emergence of Chief MKO Abiola as president , even though he was not sworn in, Atiku played a role that will make him attractive to the South -West .
