
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday he was saddened by the loss of many lives in a road accident , which occurred in Ekiti State on Saturday.
Spokesman for the Ekiti State Police Command , Caleb Ikechukwu , confirmed that 12 persons died in the auto crash.
However , reports claimed 15 persons perished the accident.
Among them were a mother, her child and a youth corps member.
The accident reportedly occurred about 9 . 15 pm when a truck coming from Ifake and going to Iworoko lost control.
The truck was said to have first hit a car and a bus before it crashed into a roadside market.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity , Mr Femi Adesina , quoted Buhari as describing the incident as lamenting the development.
The statement added, “ On behalf of the Federal Government, President Buhari extends sincere condolences to the family , friends and colleagues of the victims of the tragedy , which has indeed brought great grief to the local communities .
“ The President joins the Ekiti State Government and people in mourning those lost in the accident.
“ He appreciates the efforts of the state government in bringing timely succour to the victims in the aftermath of the disaster and assures them of the solidarity of the Federal Government.
