No fewer than 620 indigenes of Ekiti State have been screened for cataract across the 16 local government areas as a prelude to the Free Health Mission of the Governor Kayode Fayemi- led administration billed to begin on Monday .
The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health , Dr Folake Olomojobi , said the target of the screening which began on Wednesday across the three senatorial districts , was to free the people of Ekiti from cataract, a leading cause of blindness in Nigeria .
Olomojobi , who spoke in Ado Ekiti during sensitisation, said patients diagnosed of eye challenges had been referred for surgery , adding that a follow - up treatment would start from January 21 till March at designated centres across the state .
Some beneficiaries of the screening, appreciated the Fayemi- led administration for its concern and passion for Ekiti people , urging him to make the free health mission a continuous exercise .
