Families of a young man, Seun Ayoade, who was allegedly killed by a friend and member of the Special Anti -Robbery Squad ( SARS ) , have appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and the government to bring the culprit to book .
Ayoade was reportedly killed by a contingent led by Inspector Oladele Ojelabi . Ayoade died in mysterious circumstances at the SARS detention in Akure .
The body was deposited at the State Specialist Hospital , Akure.
The Guardian learnt that the officers arrested the deceased and others on October 17 , 2017 around Oke - Aro in Akure metropolis .
His wife , Gbemisola, who is also a police officer , said her husband and Inspector Ojelabi were mutual friends, though the latter made constant love advances to her and all efforts made to discourage him fell on deaf ears .
The step -father of the deceased, Mr. Femi Ajilo , disclosed that the late Ayoade and his friend , Abayomi were with him at Igbara Odo , Ekiti State on October 15 , 2017 for a church harvest .
“ They left the following day only to hear that they had been arrested and put in detention . I was battered when I got to the station to look for them . It was a superior officer who saved me from their brutality .
“ They accused me of having thieves as children . They alleged Ayobami, Seun and others were armed robbers.”
The families urged the state government and Commissioner for Police , Mr. Olugbenga Adeyanju to wade into the matter and ensure that the culprits are brought to book .
The state Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) , Mr . Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the commissioner had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
Joseph said it was an allegation against the security personnel . He assured that if the SARS officers were found guilty, they would be dealt with accordingly.
